# Competitor Gap

> Competitive intelligence from what your customers actually say in calls and tickets, not desk research, not review sites. Real voice, real deal impact.

Competitive intelligence from what your customers actually say in their calls and support tickets, not desk research, not review sites. Real voice, real quotes, real deal impact.

## Usage

```
/closedloop-competitor-gap
/closedloop-competitor-gap monthly
/closedloop-competitor-gap Acme Corp
/closedloop-competitor-gap Acme Corp vs Beta Inc
```

No arguments gives you the full competitive landscape with quarterly trends. Add a competitor name to drill in, or two names for a head-to-head comparison.

## Modes

### Full Landscape (default)

Shows all competitors ranked by threat level, with a 4-period trend showing whether each competitor is accelerating, stable, cooling, or new. Default granularity is quarterly. Use `monthly` or `weekly` to change.

### Single Competitor Drill

Type a competitor name to get the full picture: threat assessment, what they do better (from your customers' mouths), what you do better, who's talking, and actual conversation excerpts.

### Head-to-Head

Type two competitor names separated by "vs" to compare them directly.

## What You Get

* **Threat ranking with trends**: every competitor ranked by commercial threat, with 4-period trajectory showing the direction (e.g., 0 → 2 → 6 → 11 = accelerating)
* **Intent classification**: not just "mentioned" but *how*: evaluating, switching from, switching to, comparing features, frustrated with, or praising
* **CRM cross-reference**: deal values, pipeline stages, segments, and churn risk for every account that mentioned a competitor
* **Feature gaps**: what customers say the competitor does better, grouped by theme, with verbatim quotes
* **Your advantages**: what customers say you do better (mandatory section, never just weaknesses)
* **Decision criteria**: what customers evaluate when choosing, across all competitors
* **Conversation context**: for the highest-stakes mentions, actual dialogue from the call transcript

## How It Works

The skill launches 3 parallel research agents:

1. **Customer context + threat scoring**: reads every competitor mention, classifies intent, cross-references CRM data, computes threat scores, and buckets mentions into 4 time periods for trend analysis
2. **Feature gaps**: searches all product insights for each competitor, groups gaps by theme, finds your advantages from win reasons and value evidence
3. **Conversation context**: for the top 3 most commercially impactful mentions, loads the actual call transcript and extracts the relevant dialogue

After all agents complete, the skill assembles the competitive intelligence brief.

## Trend Analysis

The 4-period trend table shows the trajectory for each competitor:

| Trend        | Meaning                                                       |
| ------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------- |
| accelerating | Increasing across 3+ periods, or sharp spike in latest period |
| stable | Roughly flat across periods |
| cooling      | Decreasing across 3+ periods                                  |
| new | Zero mentions before the latest 1-2 periods |
| gone | Mentions only in older periods, none recently |

This tells you not just *who* customers mention, but whether the competitive pressure is building or fading.

## Anti-Paranoia Guardrail

Every feature gap in the output is traceable to a customer asking for it, not just a competitor shipping it. If your customers don't care about a competitor's feature, it doesn't appear in the brief. This prevents the common trap of building features just because a competitor has them.

## What This Skill Does NOT Do

* **Does not research competitors externally.** Only shows what YOUR customers say. For external research, ask separately.
* **Does not recommend "build this because competitor has it."** Shows the gap and the commercial impact. You decide if it's worth building.
* **Does not compare feature-by-feature.** Shows thematic gaps and advantages instead: feature matrices commoditize the conversation.
